Welcome to my Ethnographic Research!

I’m not just a big Metallica fan, I’m also an anthropologist.  I have been and am currently conducting ethnographic research on the Metallica Family.  What does that mean?  It means that, while being an active MetFam member, I’ve also been observing and studying what it’s like to be in the Metallica Family.  I’ve been conducting interviews, hanging out on Metallica social media pages/accounts, and on the MetClub forums like I normally would and observing everyone else there.  I know what the Metallica Family means to me but I want to learn what it means to others and as an entire entity in and of itself. What’s important to MetFam members?  Is the MetFam different from the fandom as a whole? What connects people in it?  These are the sorts of things I’m looking at while linking them with more “academic” aspects.  I interview people at the Metallica shows, on Zoom, on the phone, and any other mode of communication that I can make work.  I started this research in 2023 and will eventually turn it into a book to be published and possibly even a documentary.  Are you interested in being interviewed?  Come find me in the I Disappear line at one of the shows (you can’t miss my pink hair or my battle vest!) or reach out to me on my Contact page!
